At 7:00 pm, the 701st regular meeting of the Hope Rod and Gun Club was called to order by President Tom Downs.
The minutes of the July meeting were read as they were not available at the August meeting.
The minutes of the August meeting were not read due to being not available due to absence of the Club Secretary.
Membership: Current membership is at 300 with 35 people on the waiting list. Was reported that 3 people have already paid 2018 trap shooting fees.
Fishing: The lake wide no-wake restriction was lifted on Saturday for Waubesa and Madison lakes. Water temperature is 65 degrees. Russ has yet to send me his fishing report.
The deer gun contest will start in October. Entry fee is $10.
Building and Grounds: Wil-Kil has been contracted for the mouse problem at the club house. The current smell is due to the presence of 8 dead ones that President Downs disposed of before the meeting.
Trap League: The faulty microphone on Trap 1 has been replaced.
The 6 week fall league began last week. Members may still join. This is a non-competitive league with few shooting rules.
The fall pistol league begins tomorrow night (Wednesday). Steve Hauge is leading it. Shooting time is 6:00 pm.
Summer Gun Raffle: Final financial results were reported as $18,142 in total ticket sales including $3,570 from the Spartan Clay Busters youth group. After expenses, the club cleared $9,840 and the youth group cleared $2,500. Compared to 2016, this is a $1500 increase for the club and a $1500 increase for the youth group.
Club Picnic: Was reported that turnout was smaller than previous years. There were 25 shooters participating in the 75-bird shoot. Rick Kratochvil and Mike Mann had to shoot off for Meiler Trophy with Rick taking the honors. Sam Adams won the Presidents trophy; Brandon Neitzel won the Hope trophy; Emily Torbleau won the Ladys Trophy; Austin Miller won the Youth Trophy.
Club Christmas Party: The club is looking for someone to take over purchasing of the gifts. Call Tom Castree @ 873-1917 if at all interested.
2018 Trap League: The club is looking for members to volunteer to help out with the bartending duties for all nights.
Club Expansion: Tom Downs reported he had contacted Joe McFarland, owner of the vacant land to the east of the club property. Since the School District dropped their plans for a sports field, there are currently no plans for developing the property. He is not interested in subdividing.
Club Calendar Update: There are member reservations on Sept. 16 and Oct. 7. Black Powder club will be shooting trap on Oct. 1. The club Christmas party is on Dec. 4.
50/50 winner was Mark Birrenkott who donated it to the Gun Deer contest.
Next meeting will on October 2 at the club house. The November meeting will move to the American Legion.
