The 624th meeting of the Hope Rod and Gun Club was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Tom Downs. There were 46 members present.
Secretaries Report: Secretary Miller read the January 6, 2017 (623rd) meeting minutes that Doug Job took and submitted, hearing no additions or corrections, they were approved as read.
New Members: The following new members were approved Jerry Meysembourg, Allen Thompson, Brent Templeton and Robert Bingham.
Members Director: Membership Director Russ Jenkins reported that as to the date of this meeting 98 members have paid their 2017 dues and 6 new members have joined the club.
Building and Grounds: Tom Downs reported that along with the neighbors south of Sigglekow Road and East of the Interstate to AB, that they signed a petition to be annexed by the Village of McFarland. The rifle range impact baffle project has completed its planning stage and if weather holds they would like to begin work in late February. Dave Murray will be the Project Manager. Downs also reported that he has learned that skeet shooting may have some concerns with the prospective new neighbors to the east, that would be the McFarland School District.
Trap League: Doug reported that new members need to declare what night they want to shoot if they do not have a team. The form will be edited to identify this and distributed. On March 13th at 6:30 PM at the Legion, there will be a meet and great for trap shooters who are looking for a team and Team Captains that need shooters. First night of trap will be May 2.
Hunting and Fishing: Russ reported that Dennis Frank won the Big Buck Contest, the contest winnings were higher thanks to 50/50 contributions from Birrenkot, Jenkins and Miller.
Members can sign up for the Spring Turkey contest at the March meeting.
Raffle: Vice President Mark Hanson reported the club and youth clay busters raffle will be ready to go in early April, they are looking at bigger and wider range of prizes along with guns.
March Dinner: Is set for March 6th tickets are available tonight thru President Downs and Rick Sabatke. Members that have door prize donations or items for the auction please bring them to Sabatke no later than Sunday March 5.
Old Business: None
President Tom Downs stated that the Executive Board was presented with an opportunity to partner with Justice for a Cure by founder Joan Kamholz a retired Dane Co Sheriff Deputy. They were looking for a venue to hold a “Shoot the hell out of Cancer” fund raiser. They will have 50 women attend, they will have their own instructors and range safety officers. They will have a classroom portion of basic gun safety and be using the pistol range. Ammo is being sponsored by Gander Mountain. It will be April 22, 2017 from 9am to 3pm. They may need additional help in the pistol range to guarantee one on one with the shooters.
Dave Murray made a motion and was seconded by Rick Kratochvil that the club allocate $10,000.00 to complete the rifle range bunker, the motion carried on a voice vote. To be noted Dave is getting some supplies at a special rate to help save on project cost.
President Downs also reported that the website has been upgraded to allow for payments to the club like Dues and Shooting Fees to made online.
Ron Sam will be conducting Hunter Safety in March at the club, more details will be sent out separately.
